I bought a used civic for 600 euros when I arrived in Germany. Blew a head gasket almost immediately. Tried to have it fixed, long story short, 2000 euros later it went into the junkyard and I bought a focus for $1600 instead, ended up spending at least a couple more grand in the 2 years I owned it just to keep it on the road, much less prevent future failures, as it started falling apart right at 100k. Thankfully those are non-interference engines.
